How Much is a Dental Crown?

What is the average price for a tooth crown in the UK? The average costs of a dental crown vary from £250 to £1,500. Now, you can expect the cheaper crowns to be made from materials like metal and, therefore, not blend perfectly with the rest of your smile. Modern, ceramic and porcelain crowns typically cost from £990.

Breaking down the types of crowns and their costs

  • Prices for same-day crowns (no three-week wait).
  • Pay in full or monthly for dental crowns.
  • Dental crowns are included in the implant treatment price.
  • Dental crowns are included in the price of a dental bridge.
  • Dental crowns are not included in the cost of a root canal.

Dental crown types and prices:

The costs of a dental crown depend on the type, where in the mouth it’s being placed, and the material being used. The more natural-looking crowns use porcelain and ceramic, which means they cost more—but they are perfect for placement on visible front teeth. Stronger crowns like zirconia or metal can be used in the rear teeth. Explore crown types.

Cost breakdown (private fees):

Dental crowns are available via the NHS and are a Band 3 treatment, costing around £319.10 (2024 prices). We’re a private dentist who only offers Cerec crowns, lab-made porcelain and gold. Choosing NHS for dental crowns means patients are often limited in choosing restorative materials. As dental crowns are only provided in medically necessary situations, patients, for example, might only be offered a crown after a root canal or to help save a severely damaged tooth. Typical crowns offered by NHS dentists include metal or porcelain fused to metal or resin.

Our CEREC crowns are same-day crowns which use digital impressions to make your crown within one hour. Dental crowns last between 5 and 15 years.

Features of private dental crowns

  • Colour-matched to your surrounding teeth.
  • Visibly appealing for front teeth.
  • Available on dental finance.

Are dental crowns covered by insurance?

Dental insurance plans in the UK often include dental crown fittings.

At our clinic in Surrey, we accept dental insurance. So, if you have dental insurance, personally or through work, the cost, or a portion of your dental crown treatment, might be covered. Make sure to check your insurance policy to check coverage and identify any waiting periods or annual limits to better understand the money you’ll have to put in.

You can also check your active health insurance policies to determine if dentistry is covered.
