Quick veneer guide:
The cost of veneers varies due to the dentist used, the number of veneers desired and the amount of work required. Often seen as cost-effective in the long run, veneers initially can cost from £1,000 and is available on 0% finance.
As this procedure is cosmetic and often used only to improve a patient’s appearance, veneers are not available on the NHS, only in rare cases where they are required as a clinical need. Read more.
As the treatment offers many benefits to patients for aesthetic and oral health reasons, the procedure is often vouched for by cosmetic dentists. However, only reputable dentists will recommend veneers applied to the tooth’s front surface, not as a cap!
You do not need to have your teeth shaved down for veneers. This method is for crown procedures. For veneer applications, your original tooth remains intact, with only some systems requiring a slight etching of the enamel on the front surface.
With the proper care and attention, veneers can last a lifetime and have been known to last 15+ years. Read more about aftercare and maintenance of veneers.

Traditional veneer applications may involve the altering of your original tooth structure. However, new, more advanced versions of veneer applications involve a wafer-thin shell being applied to the front surface of your tooth only.
This involves etching a few millimetres of enamel to make room for the veneer so it does not look thick and can bond successfully. More.
Due to developments in modern dental technology, several brands and types of veneers have emerged.
- Porcelain: The most robust and durable material. The only prep work required is a small scraping of enamel. Often only millimetres are displaced to make room for the porcelain shells. However, other porcelain brands are even less evasive as they require little to no prep work – ask your dentist about these.
- Composite: A composite resin material is applied directly to the tooth – these veneers differ from porcelain. Applied instead in layers, the resin is sculpted on the tooth and require zero preparation.
