Reasons You Should Choose Dental Implants Over Dentures

All of us want to smile and feel confident – however, when you’ve lost one or more missing teeth, it can be much harder to feel fully confident with your smile.

So, you might be considering all the different ways to replace a lost tooth or teeth. The most common procedures are dental implants, mini implants, dentures and bridges.

As restorative dentists, we do recommend specific procedures over others; for example, we believe dental implants to be the best tooth replacement options, and here’s why:

1. Dental implants look just like natural teeth

One of the significant advantages of dental implants is that they look, feel and function just like regular, natural teeth. What’s even better is that others often cannot tell the difference – and neither will you, as you’ll be able to eat crispy foods like apples without worrying your implants will break or fall out.

2. Implants are permanent, strong and long-lasting

Dental implants are literally one of the most durable, most robust options to permanent fix teeth to your jaw. No more will patients have to worry about sticky/messy adhesives like with dentures.

Dental implants with the proper care and placement can last 25 years or more and are also resistant to decay.

3. Dental implants are the only restorative option that promotes a healthy jaw

Dental implants imitate the same function as tooth roots in natural teeth; they can provide a stronger foundation for your teeth and stimulate bone growth in your jaw, which often depletes due to tooth loss.

This is a really important function, which is often overlooked. Because lack of bone in the jaw means further tooth loss – and if not enough bone is present, then solutions like implants are not an option until procedures like bone grafts have been completed.

Unlike dentures, which, if you don’t care for them properly will get dry and stiff.

Dentures, unfortunately, do not promote or stimulate bone growth in your jaw, which can affect the shape of the jaw ridge and the fit of your dentures, which can make them even more uncomfortable to wear.

4. Implants can replace teeth missing throughout the mouth

Dental implants are designed to suit your exact needs.

There are single implants for individual tooth loss, multiple implants for one or more missing teeth present in different locations throughout the mouth, and all on four, which replaced the entire mouth’s teeth using only four implants.

5. Implants are easy to clean and maintain

Even though you do not have to worry about your implants getting cavities, you will still need to ensure they remain clean.

Therefore, you will still need to visit the dentist regularly to ensure your gums and jaw are in good health.

However, with all that being said, there is no special routine or special products that will need to be used to keep your implants clean. All you need to do is treat them like regular teeth and continue to brush and floss as normal.
