What do if your denture breaks
Dentures can cause irritations in the gum and mouth, often leading to infections. This can cause you problems when eating, chewing and speaking.
Broken dentures can have an enormous impact on your life, which is why they are considered a dental emergency.
Though some patients have spare dentures should a situation like this arise, they may not fit as well, so for comfort and better health it is important to repair your broken dentures as soon as possible.
In most cases, when a denture becomes broken, it is considered a dental emergency, and often, dentists like Dr Ali Rifai will be willing to bring you in for an appointment quickly.
This ensures that patients quickly regain their chewing and speaking ability as soon as possible.
Here, our professional dentist will evaluate and examine the damage caused to your denture and identify if a repair is necessary or if you will require new dentures.
For comfort, strength and durability, the doctor may recommend dental implants as an alternative to traditional dentures.

Do not wear your damaged dentures
When your denture breaks, it is essential that you remove your dentures from your mouth, especially if they have cracked.
If you retain the dentures in your mouth, you risk damaging your gums or palate or choking on a loose piece of the denture.
If your denture breaks during chewing, spit out the food and remove the denture immediately. Rinse your mouth with water and be careful not to swallow.
Gently wash your denture and book an appointment with us to have it repaired.

Temporary fixes
Is it possible to repair a deteriorated denture? The short answer to this is yes. However, it entirely depends on how the dentures have been damaged.
If a tooth is broken, cracked or has fallen out, then be wary of repairing dentures yourself at home.
Some denture repair kits may claim to fix cracks, but this might not work. So, if your denture has cracked or split in half, you will need to book an emergency appointment with one of our trusted dentists to have them repaired.
Repairing a broken or missing tooth
Purchasing repair glue kits online only provides temporary stability to dentures.
In this situation, to protect your oral condition and state, we recommend that you schedule an appointment with a dentist at your earliest convenience.
In the case of a missing tooth, it is essential not to ignore the problem. Often teeth fall out due to infection, decay, deterioration or trauma.
Once a tooth has fallen out, then the condition of the mouth can deteriorate quite quickly, and the formation of gum disease and the more serious periodontal disease are much more likely to appear.
As missing teeth encourage bacteria and infections to spread through the mouth, it is important to replace the missing tooth straight away before replacement methods, such as dental implants, become more difficult to apply.
