Veneer procedure drill-down: Your questions answered

  1. How much do veneers cost (UK)? We price our veneers from £1,000. For some, this is initially pricey. However, it can be cost-effective in the long term. It is important to bear in mind that the price of veneers also varies, this is because it depends on the amount of work required to position them and the number you wish to have placed. Discover 0% finance options.
  2. Can I get veneers on the NHS? Unfortunately no. The NHS will cover the cost if they have a clinical need. However, as this often is not the case, these placements are rare. See more.
  3. Do dentists recommend veneers? The treatment not only improves the mouth’s appearance but encourages oral health and hygiene benefits, which will keep the mouth intact and healthy. However, be wary of dentists recommending crowns and marketing them as veneers. The most recommended veneer is porcelain.
  4. Do veneers ruin your teeth? The procedure is permanent and irreversible. This is because a slight etching of enamel will need to be carried out to ensure the veneer is secure and natural-looking. Often, the scrapings are only a fraction of a millimetre and will not alter the shape or length of your tooth.
  5. Do veneers last forever? Following advised care and hygiene, veneers can last fifteen years or more.

veneers are a popular choice for many patients in Roehampton

Do you qualify for the treatment?

Do you experience or relate to any of the below?

  • I have tainted, discoloured or yellowish teeth
  • Suffer from fluorosis
  • Bite difficulties such as overbites, underbites
  • I have crooked and overcrowded teeth
  • I feel like too much gum is visible when I smile
  • My teeth have chips, cracks and breaks
  • I have gaps (diastema) between my teeth

Porcelain veneers might be the perfect solution to instantly adjust and refresh your smile if you have any of the above oral states.

Porcelain vs composite

Due to progress in state-of-the-art dental technology, many kinds and types of veneers have emerged.

  • Porcelain: Tough, long-lasting and stain-resistant. The only prep work required is a minute enamel scraping to make room for wafer-thin shells. However, other porcelain brands are even less invasive as they need little to no prep work – ask your dentist about Lumineers or Durathin.
  • Composite: Direct, reliable and natural-looking. Made of a composite resin material, composite veneers are sculpted immediately to the tooth in layers – no tooth preparation is needed to place them.

What’s the veneer process like?

Old, traditional veneer applications may include altering your natural tooth shape.

However, the most advanced and newly preferred versions of veneer applications use a super-thin shell installed over the front surface of the tooth (like a false nail, only stronger).

The preparation will only remove 0.2mm/0.5mm millimetres of enamel to make room for the veneer – this will prevent it from appearing thick-looking and ensure the veneer is stable. More.

The procedure is widely considered as pain-free, a local anaesthetic might be used to numb the general area. Oral sedation can be used if required, otherwise, this is a normal, fast and comfortable procedure.

Minimal discomfort is also reported following the treatment. The recovery process is relatively simple – it should take around two weeks to adjust to your veneers.
