To ensure healthy, straight and sparkling white teeth as adults – the best advice we can offer parents is to begin regular dental check-ups from an early age.

Why is it important for parents to begin dental treatment while their children are still young?

Detecting oral issues before they escalate

Parents should be informed that it is usually much easier to treat orthodontic issues in children than when they reach adulthood.

This can be due to two factors. Firstly, there is less stigma around things like braces in children than adults and secondly, because the teeth have not yet fully developed in childhood and so can be more easily moved or manipulated.

Protect fragile teeth

Before receiving your adult teeth, your ‘baby teeth’ are much more sensitive. Their enamel is 50% thinner so more sensitive care is required to keep these teeth healthy.

Preventing dental anxiety

preventing tooth decay in childrenMany adults suffer from dental anxiety today.

Studies show that regular visits to the dentist in childhood helps to prevent young people from developing nervous feelings about visiting the dentist in the future.

Not only this, but it will help to prevent and reduce future tooth decay.

Experts recommend bringing your child in for their first check-up when their baby teeth begin to erupt.

Your dentist will teach you and your child the best ways to keep their teeth and gums healthy and clean, as well as identifying any dental issues as early as possible.

For instance, orthodontic problems like a misaligned bite or crooked teeth are far easier to correct while the jaw is still developing.

The ideal age range for orthodontic treatment is 7 to 13.
