All-on-4 is full-arch dental rehabilitation.
Many patients think teeth-in-a-day is not possible – we’re here to tell you it is!
This dental treatment is used to help replace teeth and restore smiles for edentulous cases (toothlessness).
The procedure is the complete restoration of both the upper and lower arches using dental implants. These implants are secured by a dental bridge.
Using a full set of permanent teeth makes this treatment a long-lasting, permanent solution. Patients can expect their teeth to look, feel and operate just like natural teeth.
If you have many missing teeth then this might be the most affordable and effective procedure for you. Ask the dentist.
Also known as Teeth in a Day or Immediate Teeth, the all-on-four solution offers the exciting possibility of entering our practice with dental concerns and leaving with a mouth full of sparkling new teeth.
This technique is the only procedure that will allow you to leave our clinic with a fixed full-arch prosthesis the same day as your surgery, regardless if your case is standard or challenging.
The treatment concept is cost-efficient and helps patients with multiple tooth loss save money on individual implant placements.
“There are around 11 million denture wearers in the UK” – BHF
So many denture wearers in the UK are unhappy with how their dentures look and operate.
The All-on-Four treatment is a prosthodontic procedure that provides a permanent fixed teeth solution to removable dentures.
Over 150,000 patients have been treated with All-on-4 – Source.
More: Implant-retained dentures.
The procedure involves initially placing implants into the jaw, then attaching a fixed bridge to these implants.
The treatment is referred to as ‘all on’ because the bridge is attached to 4, 6 or 8 implants.
This number of implants used is dependent on the specific needs of the patient, though 4 implants are used most commonly.
Your dentist will help decide which option is best for you.
Usually, the more implants that are used, the stronger and more stable the teeth become as pressure is distributed more evenly amongst the implants and as a result the jaw.
The benefit of using a bridge means that there is no need for an implant for every missing tooth.
This makes the procedure quicker and less complicated than if single implants were required for all missing teeth.
Who is All-on-Four suitable for?
If you have lost a number of teeth (in either your upper or lower jaw) your dentist may recommend the ‘Teeth Now’ treatment.
If the patient criteria are met and adequate stability guaranteed, then the All-on-Four implant system can be loaded with fixed provisional restorations on the day of surgery.
All-on-4 highly effective, time-efficient and becoming an increasingly popular option.
“Really happy with my experience at GD, Ali a great dentist and really cares about his customers.” – Jason G.
The ‘all-on’ treatment has an extremely high success rate and often lasts up to 10 years.
However, like all procedures, there are some factors that can increase risks or lead to failures.
Thankfully, most of these issues are avoidable with care from the patient:
There are also certain medical conditions, including diabetes, that may impact the success and lifespan of your implants.
We will assess all of these risk factors in detail with you during your consultation so we only proceed with treatment in cases we are sure it will be successful. Here are our steps:
At The Gentle Dental, we offer free consultation meetings and assessments.
Here you can meet with one of the experienced members of our talented team of restorative dentists, and discuss your dental issues and analyse the best solutions.
If you are new to our practice, we will use this opportunity to get a clear picture of your dental history, oral health and specific needs and requirements.
We can also discuss if you have any dental anxieties or phobias, as our main goal is to make any future treatments as comfortable as possible for you.
If we decide that All-on-Four treatment is the best solution, and you are happy to move forward with this, then we will carry out a CT scan to determine the best position for the implants.
We will use the information we gain from this scan to create a personalised treatment plan for you.
After your consultation, we will finalise a date for the implantation appointment.
The implants are inserted into the jaw and retained using small screws. We will insert 4, 6 or 8 implants dependent on your specific needs and requirements.
Usually, the back implants are angled approximately 30 to 45 degrees from the biting plane.
We place the implant in front of the maxillary sinus in the upper jaw (maxilla) and in front of the mental nerve in the lower jaw (mandible).
The positioning and angle of the implants also reduce the need for sufficient bone density in the jaw.
That means patients who may have been unsuitable for single-tooth dental implants in the past could well be good candidates for an All-on-Four or All-on-Six procedure.
Unlike single-tooth implants, there is no need to wait for the implants to fuse with the bone in your jaw when undergoing the same day teeth treatment.
These procedures are ideal for patients who have very few natural teeth remaining or currently denture wearers but are looking for a more stable, comfortable solution.
During the treatment, it is possible to use a local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort if you would prefer.
In most cases, a bridge is attached to the implants on the same day as implant placement.
A couple of days after the implants have been inserted, the bridge is attached to the implants.
Though this is a temporary bridge, it allows you to smile confidently, eat normally and chew heavily food.
Around 3 months post-implantation, the temporary teeth are exchanged for your final, permanent bridge.
The most important things to remember is to keep up an effective oral hygiene routine. Brushing twice a day is essential.
Use a good quality, soft-bristled manual or electric toothbrush and give all of your natural teeth and the bridge a good brush for 2 to 3 minutes.
Generally, it is recommended you return for a check-up every 6 months and have a dental hygiene treatment to make sure your mouth remains healthy.
The All-on-Four treatment is not only the least invasive and time-consuming treatment option for restoring your smile.
But it is also often one of the least expensive in comparison to conventional implant options when bundled together.
This is because we can complete the treatment with just four implants, and in one day not over a period of months.
